Levels of Tango

A goal without a plan is just a wish.

Levels

We have structured learning in 5 levels, where each level has specific, progressive objectives. The concepts of one level are necessary for the next.

In this way we can organize the learning and the contents that are taught in the classes. A learning plan can also be determined giving the student a vision of the future in the short term.

Beginner I

Introduction to tango, we work on body awareness. You learn the basic structure of tango.

At this stage, the focus is on understanding the body, its dimension, space, interaction with music and with another person.

We work with changes of weights, directions, using arms and legs in different combinations. How an action has repercussions on the other person.

Begin to execute the tango walk as a couple walking in the opposite direction clockwise. The walk is accompanied with music.

Beginner II

Begins to walk with the goal of dancing socially. Sense of the track, gait coordination paying attention to what is happening on the track.

Marks and interpretations of movements :  More attention is paid to feeling the leader’s proposals as well as feeling how the follower responds to it.

Now the alignment of the body, the shape of the footprint, becomes more important.

The concept of pivot for both sides is introduced. There is more body awareness when doing the rotations (twist, hip, feet.) The concept of the pivot is used to execute the “Ochos”, both for the follower and for the leader.

Intermediate I

Beginning of the dance with circular movements, tango figures for the half turn. It is danced with different distances in the embrace. The closed embrace is emphasized above all else.

More tools and tango steps are introduced: Megio giro, sacadas, ganchos, lapiz, calecita.

We continue to emphasize the walk, which is the basis of tango, but we are encouraged to introduce these steps. It seeks to deepen the connection of the hug, and the concept of less is more. Dancing with relaxation and enjoyment are the objectives.

Intermediate II

It is danced in a circular way without losing the walk and the sense of the track. You start making figures where the position of the axis changes.

Now we begin to listen to the music carefully, not all the orchestras dance to them in the same way.

We seek to interpret the music, for this we use changes of dynamics, distance of the steps, the different hugs, the pauses, the changes of face, etc.

At this level we continue to improve the technique to have a more elegant, smooth and tension-free walk.

Full turns are made on the leader or follower axis. We started using ornaments, we adapted the hug to the circumstances.

Advance

Know more about music to find your own interpretation. It is sought that at least it can differentiate between the orchestras of Di Sarli, Troilo, Pugliese, D’Arienzo and Biaggi.

Creation of their own tango according to the physiognomy and style of each one.

With the social dance experience, now you can dance in large spaces but also in small spaces.

Start of a co-leader, propose from the role of follower, interpret from the role of leader (receptive leader). Dance in harmony with the track.

The focus is on finding an energy where the couple feels comfortable. It can start with role-changing exercises. The movements are smoother and more continuous. In this stage the person plays with creativity, abandons the structured movement, seeks to reinvent himself in each tango.
